According to Breitbart News, a new poll has Clark County, Nevada, Sheriff Joe Lombardo in the lead in the state’s gubernatorial race.
This comes after Lombardo, in the recently-held Republican gubernatorial primary, secured his party’s nomination.
Lombardo, who has the coveted endorsement of former President Donald Trump, easily managed to obtain victory in the primary with the second-place candidate, Joey Gilbert, finishing some 20,000 votes behind him.
All eyes now are on the matchup between Lombardo and Gov. Steve Sisolak (D), the incumbent. The two will square off later this year.
Lombardo takes the early lead
The poll cited by Breitbart was commissioned by the conservative super PAC named Club For Growth. It was conducted on behalf of the PAC by WPA Intelligence between June 4 and June 6, when the pollster surveyed some 502 likely voters via telephone.
Currently, the poll shows Lombardo with an extremely narrow lead over Sisolak: 48% to 47%. It should be noted, though, that the poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 4.4 percentage points. So, it is probably safer to say that the poll forecasts an extremely tight race between Lombardo and Sisolak.
The poll, however, didn’t simply ask which candidate voters prefer. It asked other questions as well, and one finding, in particular, could prove to be bad news for Sisolak.

The Club for Growth’s poll also highlighted a significant hurdle that Sisolak faces in the general election: President Joe Biden’s lack of popularity in Nevada. The poll found that only 39 percent of respondents viewed him as very favorable or somewhat favorable, while 55 percent see Biden as very unfavorable or somewhat unfavorable.
Lombardo doesn’t have that problem
In contrast to Sisolak, Lombardo has the backing of former President Trump, who, as the Nevada gubernatorial primary showed, remains popular among Republicans.
Trump, in his endorsement, had nothing but praise for Lombardo.
“As Governor, Joe will fiercely Protect our under-siege Second Amendment, Oppose Sanctuary Cities, Support our Law Enforcement, Veto any Liberal Tax Increase, Protect Life, and Secure our Elections. Joe Lombardo is the leader Nevada needs, and he has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Governor,” Trump wrote.
A Lombardo victory over Sisolak this November would be a huge win for Republicans and a true sign that the country is rejecting the direction taken by the Democrats since Biden became president.
