Yet another poll has Republicans dominating the Democrats in the race for Congress that will take place later this year.
This latest poll, from Rasmussen Reports, has Republicans with a double-digit lead over the Democrats on the generic congressional ballot.
Rasmussen conducted this particular poll during a period from February 13 to February 17, 2022. The pollster surveyed 2,500 likely voters by phone and internet.
One of the questions that the pollster asked participants was this: “If the elections for Congress were held today, would you vote for the Republican candidate or for the Democratic candidate?”
Rasmussen found that 50% of participants indicated that they would vote for the Republican on the ballot over the Democratic candidate. 37% said that they would vote for the Democratic candidate. And, 9% indicated that they are unsure which party they would vote for.
Breaking things down a bit further, 89% of Republican participants indicated that they would vote for the Republican candidate. But, only 77% of Democrats said that they would choose the Democratic candidate. In other words, a Democratic voter, based on the findings of this poll, would be far more likely to vote for a Republican candidate than a Republican voter would be to vote for a Democratic one.
Independent participants also gave the Republican candidate an edge, 46% to 24%. Ten percent indicated that they would vote for “some other candidate,” while the remaining 20% said that they are unsure who they would vote for.
Republicans have been leading generic congressional ballots like this one for a while now. The even worse news for Democrats, however, is that the gap only appears to be getting larger.
Breitbart News demonstrated this fact using several recent surveys.
“A CNN survey released last week showed Republicans with a lead on the generic congressional ballot, 44% to 43%,” the outlet reported, going on to note that this is a “six-point drop for Democrats” from a similar survey that the outlet conducted in November.
Breitbart similarly reported: “Trafalgar Group survey released this week showed Republicans leading Democrats by double digits in a generic congressional ballot, 54.4% to 41.9%.”
Rasmussen, in its report, noted that “the 13-point edge for Republicans in the latest poll is larger than Democrats enjoyed at any time during the 2018 midterm campaign, due both to greater GOP partisan intensity and a 22-point advantage among independents.”
