Democratic White House hopeful Joe Biden just got word of another devastating loss.
Chicago’s Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) has become the latest police union to announce its endorsement of President Donald Trump for re-election, Breitbart reported Saturday.
“[President Trump] has been a stalwart for supporting the men and women of this police department and constantly highlighting the issues within Chicago,” John Catanzara, the president of Chicago’s FOP chapter, said, according to Breitbart.
“Unfortunately,” he added, “every time [Trump] does [support police], all you get is goofy crap from the other side like they live in some other city and they have an alternate version of reality.”
“Our whole country is screwed”
According to the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago FOP’s board of directors unanimously voted to endorse President Trump for re-election on Sept. 2.
What has happened in America in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis likely played a large role in that decision. But as an anti-police sentiment continues to spread, Trump, for his part, hasn’t wavered — and Catanzara thinks that bodes well for the president as he seeks another four years in office.
“[People] see the reality of no law and order anywhere other than a handful of spots and I think they’re educated, intelligent and street smart enough to know that is what is going to make us a prosperous society — if we go the other way,” Catanzara said, according to Breitbart.
He went on: “If we keep going down this downward spiral, our whole country is screwed, democracy would be screwed, capitalism would be screwed and you will not even recognize the United States of America in another generation.”
“He has our backs”
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) is one of many Democratic officials who have aligned themselves with those calling for police departments to be defunded. This stance puts Lightfoot at odds with the interests of local law enforcement — something that is not lost on the Chicago FOP.
Catanzara targeted the mayor in his statement, saying that she is “steering the ship into an iceberg full speed ahead without even blinking an eye as if the iceberg is going to break when you hit it,” according to Breitbart.
For Catanzara, Trump is everything that Democrats like Lightfoot are not — which is why Catanzara says he “will do whatever [he] can for him.” And he’s not alone. Police unions around the nation have been announcing their endorsements of Trump for re-election in recent weeks, including ones in major Democrat cities like New York and even the National Fraternal Order of Police.
“President Trump has made it crystal clear that he has our backs,” FOP National president Patrick Yoes said earlier this year, according to a separate report from Breitbart. It all adds up to bad news for former Vice President Joe Biden.
