Police chief Lang Holland in Marshall, Arkansas, has resigned after he called for the “death” of “all Marxist Democrats” in a social media post following the 2020 presidential election, the New York Post reported.
Democratic Marshall Mayor Kevin Elliot condemned Holland’s statements, as did Republican Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson.
According to reports, however, Holland’s decision to step down was his own. His resignation, announced on Saturday, is effective immediately.
Holland made the comments on Parler, a growing social media site that many people are switching to as a result of Twitter and Facebook’s frequent censorship of conservative voices.
“When this is over and Trump is president for 4 more years. Do not go to sleep. Do not forget what these Marxist Democrat b******s have tried to do,” Holland wrote, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.
Following these comments, Holland’s remarks became more violent.
“When you see one in public get in their face do not give them any peace,” Holland said. “Throw water on them at restaurants. Push them off sidewalks. Never let them forget they are traitors and have no right to live in this Republic after what they have done.”
In a separate post, Holland wrote: “Death to all Marxist Democrats. Take no prisoners leave no survivors!!”
Holland also posted a picture of former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in prison attire, along with the caption, “I pray all those in that picture hang on the gallows and are drawn and quartered.” The posts are no longer available online.
Following the discovery of Hollands remarks, the city mayor wrote a letter condemning the “threats of violence,” The Washington Post reported.
“The Marshall community does not in any way support or condone bullying or threats of violence to anyone of any political persuasion,” Elliot wrote. “We condemn it! We are a community that is humbly working to build a bright future for ALL our citizens, whether they be long-term residents or new arrivals.”
Elliot confirmed that Holland has apologized and decided to resign on his own accord, according to USA Today.
