Pennsylvania state senator resigns amid child pornography charges: Report

One Pennsylvania state senator has proven to the world there is an ugly underbelly to the political world.

Michael Folmer, who has been serving the 48th District in Pennsylvania since 2007, has resigned from his role after being arrested on child pornography charges, according to The New York Times.

From Conservative to Criminal

The news of the charges against Folmner stunned his community, his family, and his fellow members of the state Senate.

“We are sickened and disturbed by the charges brought against Mike Folmer yesterday,” Pennsylvania Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati and state Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman said in a statement.

They went on to report that “the 48th Senatorial District Seat is now vacant.”

Nobody Above the Law

If there was ever a time to ask, “What were you thinking?” — this would be it. Folmer reportedly uploaded a pornographic image of a child to Tumblr.

After the image was uploaded, Tumblr alerted authorities and the account that uploaded the image was eventually traced back to the state senator. He is now facing one count of criminal use of a communication facility and three counts of possession of child pornography.

Folmer’s arraignment was held on Tuesday night, and he has already posted $25,000 bail.

So far, Folmer has not offered any excuse, only stating that he has been working through some “personal problems.”

But while he may only be a state senator, the disgraceful behavior of Folmer will impact the Republican Party at large — and especially in his state, which could have a significant impact on the presidential election.

Folmer’s disgusting actions could influence voters that are on the fence come Election Day — something President Donald Trump and the GOP just can’t afford right now.

What a disgrace.
