The Democrats’ impeachment inquiry is all but over. The last few days have delivered hit after hit to the credibility of the Democrats, and now, it’s been revealed that European Union Ambassador Gordon Sondland may have lied to Congress about a conversation he claimed to have had with Vice President Mike Pence, according to Breitbart,
Everyone Democrats have brought forward has damaged their case more than it’s helped.
Conversation never happened
Sondland testified before the House Intelligence Committee on Wednesday and claimed that he had spoken to Pence about a hold on financial aid to Ukraine in September.
“I mentioned to Vice President Pence before the meetings with the Ukrainians that I had concerns that the delay in aid had become tied to the issue of investigations,” he said.
The problem, according to Marc Short, who serves as Pence’s chief of staff, is that “the vice president never had a conversation with Gordon Sondland about investigating the Bidens, Burisma, or the conditional release of financial aid to Ukraine based upon potential investigations.”
Either Gordon Sondland lied under oath, or several other witnesses did. And considering the number of witnesses saying otherwise, it’s more likely that Sondland lied.
Sondland already built a bad reputation in regard to Ukraine, according to Politico, given that it is not a member of the European Union, to which Sondland serves as ambassador. Indeed, Sondland was heavily involved in matters there, despite the country being outside his specific realm of duty.
So we have someone who shouldn’t have even been involved in Ukrainian diplomacy issues testifying that he talked to Pence about financial aid to that country, and we have testimony from others denying that such a thing had ever happened.
Short went on to clarify: “Multiple witnesses have testified under oath that Vice President Pence never raised Hunter Biden, former Vice President Joe Biden, CrowdStrike, Burisma, or investigations in any conversation with Ukrainians or President Zelensky before, during, or after the September 1 meeting in Poland.”
Heads will roll
Ever since the impeachment hearings started, Democrat witnesses have made the lack of solid evidence against President Trump crystal clear.
So far, no witness has provided any real evidence that proves Trump is guilty of anything remotely impeachable, and Sondland has only further muddied the waters with his contradictory testimony. Democrats had months to prepare, and they are coming up extremely short.
This issue should have been settled in a matter of weeks, and at the point at which it became evident that they had little of substance against Trump, the investigation should have been closed. But instead, several months and millions of dollars have been wasted. When will this charade end?
