Pelosi faces backlash after thanking George Floyd for ‘sacrificing’ his life for ‘justice’

There were quite a few bad takes following the guilty verdict handed down in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer charged with murdering George Floyd, but few were quite as terrible as the one offered up by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

During a press event following the announcement of the verdict, Pelosi essentially thanked Floyd for dying and “sacrificing” his life in the service of “justice” and the Democratic agenda of policing and judicial reforms, Breitbart reported.

“Thank you, George Floyd”

Pelosi was joined by members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) outside of the Capitol building Tuesday afternoon for a press event to discuss the verdict in the Chauvin trial, in which the former officer was found guilty on all counts.

After first speaking about the CBC and the Floyd family, Pelosi turned her attention to the late Floyd himself, turning her gaze skyward as if she were directly addressing him up in the heavens.

“So, again, thank you George Floyd for sacrificing your life for justice,” Pelosi said. “For being there to call out to your mom — how heartbreaking was that? — to call out to your mom, ‘I can’t breathe.'”

“But because of you — and because of thousands, millions of people around the world who came out for justice — your name will always be synonymous with justice,” she added. “And now we have to make sure justice prevails in the sentencing.”

Pelosi slammed by the left

Breitbart reported that Pelosi was sharply criticized by just about everyone for her remarks, but especially those on the left.

Linking to a tweet of her words from an NBC reporter, in which virtually every single reply was negative toward her, Pelosi attempted to clarify her remarks and rectify the situation, to little avail.

Breitbart shared several examples of individuals on the left harshly criticizing Pelosi for the horrid take, particularly the implication that Floyd willingly laid down his life in furtherance of a broader goal, when the fact is that he was an unwilling participant in the events that took place that fateful day in May of 2020.

Pelosi’s words were deemed to be “disgusting” and “awful” and “antiblack” and “racist,” not to mention arrogant and out-of-touch and further evidence that the long-serving congresswoman “has to go.”

Indeed, thanking someone for being murdered, in that their untimely and unwelcomed death will help further a partisan agenda goal, is truly terrible. It will be interesting to see if this initial blowback from the left against Pelosi persists or dies down like all of the other absurd takes and horrible statements she has uttered in the past.
