With just one week left of President Donald Trump’s term, House Democrats have launched another impeachment effort to both hasten his exit and ensure he never returns to the presidency again.
On Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) named her impeachment managers, including Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) Fox News reported.
Swalwell spent years falsely accusing Trump of being compromised by the Russians, only for it to be revealed that the California lawmaker had allegedly been compromised by a spy for the Chinese Communist Party.
Swalwell as impeachment manager
This new impeachment attempt is focused on Trump’s alleged incitement of the crowd of his supporters, a group of which stormed the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6 during a joint session of Congress.
In a press release on Tuesday, Pelosi introduced the House Democrats who would be appointed as impeachment managers in the event that articles of impeachment were passed by the House and taken up by the Senate for a formal impeachment trial.
Among the nine named managers — led by Rep. Jaime Raskin (D-MD) — was Swalwell, who Pelosi noted “serves on House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where he chairs the Intelligence Modernization and Readiness Subcommittee, and on the Judiciary Committee. He is a former prosecutor and is the son and brother of law enforcement officers. He is serving his fifth term in Congress.”
In response to the news, Swalwell issued a statement expressing how “humbled and honored” he was to have been appointed a manager by Pelosi while also railing against Trump.
On Wednesday, The House of Representatives did, in fact, vote to impeach Trump, and the Articles of Impeachment will now go to the Senate, NBC News reported.
Compromised by the Chinese?
Besides how divisive impeachment is for the nation at this time — the inclusion of Swalwell as an impeachment manager by Pelosi has opened the speaker and the entire effort up to further criticism.
Fox News noted that Swawell’s continued presence on the Intelligence Committee has been sharply criticized in light of the revelation that the congressman had a years-long relationship with a communist Chinese spy known in the United States as Christine Fang.
Pelosi celebrated the fact that Swalwell is now serving his fifth term in Congress, of course failing to mention that the Chinese spy reportedly played an integral role in getting Swalwell elected to Congress in the first place, by way of fundraising and networking among Democratic power players in California.
Swalwell never should have been elected to Congress at all, much less placed on a highly sensitive panel like the Intelligence Committee. The fact that he not only was re-elected in November and still remains on the committee despite legitimate questions of national security proves how unserious Pelosi and the Democrats truly are, and only further undermines any purported legitimacy of the complaints against Trump and efforts to remove him from office.
