The drama over House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) decision to openly rip up her copy of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech had almost blown over, but Pelosi just revived it all when she finally explained her motivation behind the act of defiance.
In an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Saturday, Pelosi confessed that the reason she ripped up the State of the Union speech was to “get attention,” Breitbart reported.
Pelosi continues to spew lies about how the tearing of the speech came to be.
This time, the House speaker told CNN that she is a speed reader and that as she went through the speech, she noticed that “almost every page had something in it that was objectionable.”
She added: “I had no intention of doing that when we went into the State of the Union.
“I was reading ahead. I knew what was there. I got through a third of it, and I thought this is terrible,” she said. “I made a nitch on a couple of pages, thinking I ought to remember what’s on this page, this page. Then I realized that almost every page had something in it that was objectionable. So it wasn’t a planned thing.”
Pelosi justified her grandstanding by whining about the lack of attention she gets when legislation is passed in the House. “It seems if you want to get press, you have to get attention. I thought, well, let’s get attention on the fact that what he said here today was not true,” she said.
But there are a couple of things wrong with that statement.
First, while there are some pieces of legislation that look good on the surface, they all seem to have little poison pills built into them to push a Democrat agenda.
Indeed, most of the legislation is very much partisan and has no chance at all of passing through the Senate. And as far as getting attention goes, as far as we can tell, it’s not part of the job description.
Our representatives are elected to office to represent We the People, not get headlines. Pelosi did get attention, but it was all bad. She looked childish and has been criticized by both the left and right for her petulant reaction to Trump’s SOTU speech.
Speaker Pelosi can continue to try to justify this every time she gets in front of a camera, but Americans know what they saw: a childish act by a frustrated politician who lost on impeachment.
