In apparent swipe at Trump, Nancy Pelosi snaps photo alongside Rep. Ilhan Omar in Ghana

Although there seems to be an ever-growing mountain of legislative business that desperately needs attention here in the U.S., much of Congress has left Washington for a month-long August recess — including Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The Guardian reports that the California Democrat and a sizeable number of fellow Dems, including Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, embarked upon a taxpayer-funded trip to Ghana and the U.S. Army Africa Headquarters in Italy last week, and they weren’t afraid to snap some photos along their journey in an apparent swipe at President Donald Trump.

Pelosi, Omar pal around in Ghana

The congressional delegation reportedly stopped in the African nation Ghana to observe the 400th anniversary of the beginning of the slave trade, among other things.

There, Omar posted several pictures to Instagram — including one of herself with Pelosi — at an old fort where slaves were held temporarily prior to transport across the ocean.

“They said ‘send her back’ but Speaker Pelosi didn’t just make arrangement to send me back, she went back with me,” Omar wrote in a caption to one of those photos.

Going ‘back’ to Africa

The freshman congresswoman was referencing tweets from President Trump in mid-July — as well as a subsequent, brief chant of “send her back” at a Trump rally in North Carolina — that had sparked great outrage among Democrats and the media.

In a series of tweets on July 14 aimed at Omar and her fellow “Squad” members of radical leftist, America-hating progressives, Trump had written: “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came[?]” He added that they should then “come back” and share their solutions to fix things, and joked that “Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

That broadside from the president came at a time of great in-fighting between Omar’s progressives and the slightly more moderate political establishment, led by Pelosi. Almost overnight, the tweets brought an end to the internal bickering among Democrats and compelled the entirety of the party to circle the wagons in defense of the young rabble-rousing radicals they had been trying to distance themselves from just days earlier.

That was duly noted in a tweet from the president the next day. “The Dems were trying to distance themselves from the four ‘progressives,’ but now they are forced to embrace them. That means they are endorsing Socialism, hate of Israel and the USA! Not good for the Democrats!” he wrote.

Proving Trump’s point

Omar, who thinks she is more clever than she actually is, thought she had got in a good shot against President Trump, whose cleverness is consistently underestimated — but ironically, she only ended up proving Trump’s point about herself and Pelosi.

Pelosi has indeed been forced to embrace Omar and her “Squad” — and all of the anti-American things for which they stand.

Now that those two members of Congress have proven Trump’s points for him, maybe they can return to Washington and actually get back to work doing what they are paid to do.
