Pelosi melts down, shreds SOTU speech on national TV

President Donald Trump’s Tuesday State of the Union address was very good for one party and very bad for the other. Most political analysts agreed this was one of the best — if not the best — speech Trump has ever given.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), however, did not agree. In fact, she literally shredded the speech while the president was still on the dais, the Daily Wire reports.

Frustration boils over

The frustration of Nancy Pelosi has never been more evident than it was last night.

Pelosi never really wanted to impeach Trump, but she buckled to the far-left of her party and it’s quite probable that it was the biggest political mistake she has ever made.

You could read her face last night as she struggled with her emotions, which resulted in her shredding a document that celebrated Americans and paid tribute to several patriots who paid the ultimate price for their duty to this country.

After her shocking display, Pelosi told reporters it was “the courteous thing to do, given the alternatives.”

Immediate pushback

Regardless of political division, a certain standard of decorum has generally always been followed during a SOTU address.

There was an exception in 2009 when Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) yelled out “You lie!” to Obama during his 2009 SOTU address. The difference here, though, was that Wilson faced heavy backlash from Republicans, who were as upset by the statement as Democrats were.

This time, Democrats in office applauded Pelosi’s behavior, even though their constituents did not. Social media is littered with outraged Democratic voters who were appalled by Pelosi’s antics, many vowing to never vote for a Democrat again. Additionally, Pelosi was pummeled by pundits on Twitter, as well as the White House, after the fact.

Simply put, Pelosi’s behavior was petty and inappropriate, and it will surely cost her party dearly come November.

Hopefully, the House speaker enjoyed her moment in the spotlight, because chances are it will be her last SOTU in the speaker’s chair.
