Flashback: Pelosi refuses to accept facts from DHS director during hearing

September 9, 2019 by Jerry McCormick

We have caught virtually every Democrat candidate lying or outright making up their own facts to suit their narrative.

Their behavior is very reminiscent of what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did in January to then-Homeland Security Director Kirstjen Nielsen, when she told the director, “I reject your facts,” according to Fox News.

It Doesn’t Work That Way

During the hearing, Nielsen was giving a presentation to support the building of a border wall. Nielson was using the statistics regarding criminal and terrorist apprehensions at the border to back the wall project.

She informed House members that roughly 17,000 criminals had been apprehended as well as roughly 3,000 immigrants with terrorist ties.

House Dems tried to say Nielsen was categorizing anyone that had crossed the border as a criminal, but that was not the case. If that were the case, that numbers would have been more like 1,000,000!

As Nielsen spouted off the numbers, Pelosi interrupted her, saying, “I reject your facts.” Nielsen then replied, “These aren’t my facts. These are the facts.”

Whether Pelosi wants to admit it or not, that is not how the system works. You don’t get to reject facts simply because you don’t like them.

The Backlash

After the presentation, there was backlash from both sides. Senator Durbin (D-IL) further ripped into Nielsen, saying her presentation was not “credible.”

He added, “It was preposterous. At a time when we have the lowest level of apprehensions at the border — stopping people from coming in illegally — the lowest level historically, she is saying that we have all these terrorists and criminals and all these people on their way in.”

Nielsen responded by saying she was very disappointed in the fact our elected representatives on the Democrat side of the aisle simply were not interested in hearing the real numbers.

Little did we all know, at the time the border numbers she was reporting were nothing in comparison to what this country would face over a record-setting stretch in the spring and summer of this year.

At times, there were more than 4,000 people a day being apprehended. Had Dems listened to the secretary at the time of her report, perhaps the crisis at the border could have been avoided, but since we cannot turn back time, we will never know.
