‘Take back your party’: Pelosi insists GOP ‘friends’ have been ‘hijacked by a cult’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has long been known as a progressive firebrand with deep animosity toward conservative values and some lawmakers on the other side of the aisle.

She appears to have taken her politically charged rhetoric to new heights this week, however, by publicly comparing Republicans to cult members, as OANN reports.

“You’ve done wonderful things”

“I’d say to my Republican friends, and I do have some, take back your party,” Pelosi said, according to Business Insider. “You’re the Grand Old Party of America. You’ve done wonderful things for our country. You now have been hijacked by a cult.”

It remains to be seen how many GOP friends she will have left after her latest ad hominem attack.

Pelosi’s remarks came during an address on Thursday at Cambridge University as part of an overarching theme designed to denigrate and vilify former President Donald Trump.

“One of the ways we can help improve that situation is by passing H.R. 1,” she said of a Democratic-sponsored election reform bill.

Although she claimed that the legislation “may not benefit Democrats” if it ultimately becomes law, she asserted that “it may benefit the country because it would make Republican districts more open to people other than the ones who are in Congress now.”

“It was an insurrection”

She continued railing against Trump and his supporters, particularly in the context of the Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

“It was an insurrection incited by the president of the United States,” she asserted. “No one could have ever expected that or be prepared for something like that.”

Pelosi identified “white supremacy, antisemitism, and Islamophobia” as the root causes of the siege, reiterating the belief by some intelligence experts that domestic terrorism is the most pressing danger facing the United States.

A number of prominent Republicans, on the other hand, believe it is Pelosi who bears at least some of the blame for setting the stage for the Jan. 6 riot.

In July, U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) expressed such an opinion, stating: “It is a fact the U.S. Capitol Police raised concerns, and rather than providing them with the support and resources they needed and deserved, she prioritized her partisan political optics over their safety.”
