Video shows Speaker Pelosi use elbow to push away young daughter of new GOP Rep. Flores during swearing-in ceremony

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was undoubtedly quite unhappy when Rep. Mayra Flores (R-TX) recently won an upset victory in a special election this month that flipped a South Texas congressional district that had been a Democratic stronghold for decades.

Speaker Pelosi’s displeasure may well have been subtly on display and caught on camera during Flores’ swearing-in ceremony as Pelosi appeared to elbow Flores’ young daughter out of the way during a photo-op, the Conservative Brief reported.

The new congresswoman and her daughter appeared to take the incident in stride, while a spokesman for the House Speaker offered up a laughable excuse in an attempt to claim that Pelosi had not elbowed the child but had actually been trying to ensure the girl was fully visible for the cameras.

Pelosi elbowed a little girl out of her way

“I am so proud of my strong, beautiful daughter for not allowing this to faze her. She continued to smile and pose for the picture like a Queen,” Rep. Flores tweeted Sunday night. “No child should be pushed to the side for a photo op. PERIOD!!”

Attached to that tweet was a video of the incident at the swearing-in ceremony that had initially been shared by conservative actor James Woods, who had written, “I love this princess stood her ground, while Nancy showed her true colors.”

As can be seen in the video, Flores had posed with one hand raised and the other on a Bible as she took her oath of office while her two young daughters stood on the opposite side of Speaker Pelosi while the oath was administered.

Pelosi can be seen in the video waving her arms and then casting a glance down toward the girl close by her side and using her elbow to quite clearly nudge the girl away from her.

The video further showed that after being elbowed by the top House Democrat, the young girl showed no reaction other than to casually slide back to exactly where she had been standing prior to the nudge.

Pelosi spox spins like top to excuse elbowing of young child

In response to media coverage of that viral video showing Pelosi elbowing Flores’ daughter, Drew Hammill, the speaker’s deputy chief of staff, shared a video of the incident from a slightly different angle and tweeted, “It’s sad to see ‘news outlets’ that know better misrepresent the Speaker’s effort to ensure Rep. Flores’ daughters wouldn’t be hidden behind her in all of the photos of such an important moment for their family.”

The comments in reply to that post from Hammill showed, however, that very few people were actually buying that excuse, and many called Hammill out directly for engaging in ridiculously dishonest spin to try and protect his boss.

According to the Daily Wire, Flores had won her unexpected victory in Texas’ 34th Congressional District on June 15 and the swearing-in ceremony during which the elbowing incident occurred actually took place on June 21, though it did not gain any national attention until days later when it began to go viral on social media over the weekend.
