Pelosi demands McCarthy condemn gun-toting GOP candidate for ‘dangerous’ meme

A recent meme posted by congressional hopeful Marjorie Taylor Greene on social media has everyone in an uproar, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who angrily issued a statement ordering Greene’s “dangerous” meme to be formally condemned.

Democrats weren’t amused after Greene got creative to show her distaste for the Squad — the nickname for a group of far-left newcomers in the House, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).

Greene posts controversial image

The Georgia Republican put out a meme this week, titled, “Squad’s Worst Nightmare. The image featured a photo of herself toting a gun along with photos of Squad members Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, and Tlaib.

Some took the meme as threatening to the Democratic congresswomen. See the meme below:

After Omar tweeted a complaint about the meme, which she called “incitement,” a Facebook representative responded and confirmed that the social media platform had removed Greene’s post as of Friday morning.

Pelosi responds

After the post went out on social media, a furious Pelosi issued a demand via Twitter: “Republican Leader @kevinomccarthy must immediately condemn this dangerous threat of violence against Democratic Congresswomen. -NP”

Greene responded, “Actually Nancy, we need to remove you from Congress. Congressman Steve Scalise was shot by a left-wing terrorist, and the next day you blamed Republicans. Senator Rand Paul was hounded by a BLM / ANTIFA mob last week and could have lost his life,” she continued, adding in a followup tweet: “2. The Fake News Media and the Democrats refuse to condemn these ACTUAL attacks on conservatives. And now she’s pulling her brand new hair-do out over a meme.”

She also responded to Omar, who suggested that she is already receiving death threats over the post. “Relax @IlhanMN, it’s just a meme. What isn’t a meme is BLM / ANTIFA violence, rioting, and destruction that occurred on Minneapolis streets. While your city was being burned and innocent people of color like David Dorn were killed, you called BLM / ANTIFA peaceful protesters,” Greene tweeted.

Greene continued to refuse to back down, later stating, “I ran for office to expose, confront, and defeat the radical left. I scare them so much, they’re trying to cancel me out even before I’ve been elected. But like President Trump, what they say about me is what they think about you. These Socialist radicals will never defeat this American woman. And I will continue fighting to Keep America Great.”

Controversial candidate

Greene is regularly described as a “QAnon candidate” by the media over her past mentions of the conspiracy theory. She has denied the claim, saying that it’s in her past and that “once I started finding misinformation, I decided that I would choose another path.”

Not a fan of QAnon at all, but Greene is likely to get a lot of support if she keeps putting out strong statements against socialism like this. If she wins in November, it sure will make covering the House a LOT more interesting.
