Even as America remains in limbo following Election Day with no formal president-elect announced, it was clear from the early results that things had not gone as planned for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
When the new legislative session begins in January, the progressive speaker will have to contend with a number of new pro-life congresswoman in the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives, as reported by Breitbart.
“We’re celebrating this morning”
The pro-life Susan B. Anthony List celebrated the news in a tweet on Wednesday.
According to the organization, 13 new pro-life Republican women will join the House in the next term — including several who were successful in flipping formerly Democratic-held seats.
“We’re celebrating this morning as 13 NEW proudly #ProLife women (and counting!!) win their races for the U.S. House!!” the group tweeted.
This number does not include the 11 incumbent pro-life congresswomen who managed to hold onto their seats for another term. Election Day more than doubled the number in their ranks.
Also worth noting is that these confirmed wins do not include a number of House races that have yet to be called as of this writing. Races in New York, Indiana, Texas, Illinois, California, and Arizona all present other pro-life women with a path to serving in the House.
“A repudiation of abortion extremism”
Similarly, the U.S. Senate includes six pro-life women and the potential for another in the yet-to-be-determined Georgia race involving GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler.
Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser explained the importance of these election results in a statement: “We expect when all votes are counted and the races are called, we will have a record number of pro-life women serving in the next Congress. These gains are a repudiation of abortion extremism and further evidence that life is a winning issue in politics.”
Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins echoed her optimism, noting that activists “knocked on doors nationwide so that pro-life legislators could get to work defending women and their children, born and preborn.”
Adding to Pelosi’s misery are reports that some within her own party want to see her replaced in the leadership position.
No matter the outcome of the remaining contested races, however, abortion opponents across the country appear to have new reason to celebrate.
