‘Not a solution’: Pelosi claims postmaster general issued ‘misleading’ statement about USPS cuts

The Democratic Party is embracing a new line of attack against the Trump administration and its alleged plot to sabotage the U.S. Postal Service to undermine mail-in voting efforts.

In a statement on Wednesday, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) dismissed recent assurances from Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, calling his statement “misleading” and “not a solution,” as The Epoch Times reported.

Pelosi presses pause

Pelosi’s remarks, which came after a recent meeting with DeJoy, cast doubt on his commitment to protect the USPS from detrimental budget cuts.

DeJoy had sought to assuage growing fears surrounding reports that mail dropboxes being removed, sorting machines taken offline, and staff hours slashed.

“To avoid even the appearance of any impact on election mail, I am suspending these initiatives until after the election is concluded,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Following her meeting with him, however, Pelosi concluded that the postmaster general’s vow should not be enough for concerned voters.

“This morning, I spoke with Postmaster General DeJoy and conveyed to him that his announcement is not a solution and is misleading,” she said, according to a transcript provided by her office. “The Postmaster General’s alleged pause is wholly insufficient and does not reverse damage already wreaked.”

Jeopardizing the election?

Pelosi went on to assert that DeJoy “frankly admitted that he had no intention of replacing the sorting machines, blue mailboxes, and other key mail infrastructure that have been removed and that plans for adequate overtime, which is critical for the timely delivery of mail, are not in the works.”

She took the opportunity to promote a Democratic-sponsored bill that would provide emergency funds to the USPS, seeking to highlight the perceived chasm between DeJoy’s position and her own.

“All of these changes directly jeopardize the election and disproportionately threaten to disenfranchise voters in communities of color,” Pelosi declared.

According to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), however, it is Pelosi who is misleading Americans. McCarthy has insisted in his own statement that “the facts prove House Democrats are manipulating information and giving validity to a conspiracy theory.”

It seems that when it comes to the election, as with almost any other issue, Pelosi and her fellow Democrats will look for any reason they can find to attack the Trump administration. It never stops.
