It is one thing for Republicans to organize an effort to remove President Donald Trump from office, given that he is a political outsider they have never accepted as one of their own.
However, things are reportedly being taken to a new level. A Never-Trump super PAC called the Lincoln Project, together with other like-minded operatives, is now mounting an effort to wrest the Senate from Republican control, according to Breitbart.
Upending the system
When Trump ran for office in 2016, he made it quite clear that members of the establishment who did not stand with him would be considered his enemy.
While that strategy was effective four years ago, particularly with voters fed up with lifelong politicians who did not represent their true interests, there is now a group of staunch Never-Trumpers who are not only working to oust the president but are also hoping to upend Congress as well.
At the forefront of this movement to purge Republicans from the Senate to give Democrats a controlling majority, is the Lincoln Project, as Breitbart reports.
Purging from within
All things remaining equal, a Trump loss in November would certainly be a setback for conservatives, but it would not be the end of the world.
If Democrats retain control of the House and take the White House, but they fail to gain a majority in the Senate, Republicans can still prevent the left from running roughshod over the entire country.
If, however, Democrats hold the House, win the White House, and hold at least 60 seats in the Senate, they will be able to pass any kind of radical legislation they desire, and there won’t be a thing Republicans could to do to stop them.
Sadly, though, that is exactly the scenario the Lincoln Project is hoping to bring about this election year.
Stakes are high
According to Breitbart, Jennifer Horn, a former New Hampshire GOP chairwoman who currently advises the Lincoln Project, stated, “The only way to make sure that Trumpism doesn’t continue to rule the Republican Party for years to come is to make sure that we defeat not only the president, but those people who have enabled him.”
The only GOP lawmaker in the upper chamber who appears safe from their wrath is Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT).
The very future of this country truly hinges on the outcome this November, because if PACs such as the Lincoln Project have their way, Democrats will be poised to set this country back not just years, but decades.
