Texas governor signs order aimed at ‘preventing federal overreach’ as Biden targets energy production

President Joe Biden has been in office for just a little more than a week, and already, he has waged an undeniable war against American energy independence.

It’s a development that hasn’t gone unnoticed in Texas, where, according to Newsmax, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott just signed an executive order authorizing state agencies to pursue all avenues of opposition to the Biden administration’s moves against the state’s economic lifeblood: the oil and natural gas production industry.

The order from Abbott, issued Thursday, came in direct response to a slew of executive actions taken by Biden targeting fossil fuels and domestic energy production — actions that could prove economically devastating to states like Texas.

Taking away livelihoods

Local Fox affiliate KTBC in Austin reported that Gov. Abbott signed his order guarding against federal overreach following a roundtable discussion about protecting the energy industry at an oil production facility in Odessa.

“The men and women who work in the energy industry produce the affordable energy that powers our lives and they are vital to the Texas economy,” Abbott said in a statement, according to KTBC.

“Texas is a pro-energy state, and we will not sit idly by and allow the Biden administration or local governments to destroy jobs and raise energy costs for Texas families,” he added.

“My Executive Order will help ensure that the federal government cannot take away the livelihoods of Texans who work so hard to provide our state and our nation with the energy we need,” Abbott said.

“Preventing federal overreach”

In his order, the governor took direct aim at Biden’s “extreme hostility toward the energy industry,” including his “job-killing” decision to rejoin the Paris climate accord.

Abbott also decried Biden’s move to revoke the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline, his changes to regulations on methane production, and his moratorium on new leases and permits for drilling and exploration for oil and natural gas on federal lands, among other atrocities.

Given all of that, the governor authorized “every state agency [in Texas] to use all lawful powers and tools to challenge any federal action that threatens the continued strength, vitality, and independence of the energy industry.”

“Each state agency should work to identify potential litigation, notice-and-comment opportunities, and any other means of preventing federal overreach within the law,” the order states.

President Biden may be intent on destroying America’s energy independence through his executive assaults on domestic oil and natural gas production — but it seems that won’t be an easy task, at least so long as Texas has anything to say about it.
