Rep. Ilhan Omar faces lawsuit questioning her legal status

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) woke up to some very bad news this week.

Larry Klayman, a former Justice Department prosecutor and the founder of Freedom Watch, wants to know whether Omar is in the U.S. legally — and he’s suing to get an investigation going that could leave Omar facing some serious charges.

Investigating Ilhan

As you may recall, Klayman has gone after Omar before. He previously asked the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to investigate Omar on similar claims that she is in the country illegally.

Klayman also appealed to the House of Representatives to investigate her immigration status, but to avail.

Since he wasn’t satisfied with the results of his previous petitions, he is now taking matters into his own hands.

By filing the complaint in a U.S. District Court, Klayman is hopeful DHS will be forced to conduct an investigation into Omar and determine her legal status one way or the other.

Alarming allegations

According to Klayman, Omar purposely committed marriage fraud to circumvent immigration laws.

Oddly enough, the laws that Klayman accuses Omar of violating are some of the same laws to which a marriage scam in Houston, Texas has been tied. In the Texas scam, more than 100 people were indicted for paying anywhere from $50,000 to $70,000 to be provided with the proper documentation and a “spouse” to allow them to pass through the immigration process.

Klayman has also argued that Omar came to the country under false pretenses, as she was in no danger when she was given permission to come to the United States.

He said that she was staying in “the resort city of Mombasa, Kenya, famous for its magnificent beaches on the Indian ocean, and a magnet for wealthy tourists from Europe and around the world.”

More accusations

Klayman also alleges in his suit that Omar has affiliated herself with organizations that openly support terrorists and that she may have married her own brother.

He also hit Rep. Omar hard in a statement recently over her controversial comments about Israel, saying they were “not just a disgrace, but demonstrative of the rapid decline of our institutions.”

It will be very interesting to see if Klayman’s lawsuit is dismissed as his petitions were, or if the courts buy in and demand an investigation.

One thing is for certain: if the investigation concludes that Klayman is correct, the Democratic Party will be in a complete shambles — and it could cost them the 2020 presidential election.
