Another Democrat has added their name to the list of misguided members of C
“Barr needs to resign,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) tweeted on Thursday.
AOC joins in
Ocasio-Cortez issued the tweet on Thursday morning when Barr informed the House Judiciary Committee that he was not going to show up for the scheduled hearing.
Barr had taken issue with Chairman Jerry Nadler’s (D-NY) recently implemented stipulations, which included that Barr would be questioned by an independent counsel, rather than by the representatives themselves.
Ocasio-Cortez also retweeted a message from Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) calling Barr’s behavior “dangerous” and urging that he be held in “contempt.”
“Chairman Nadler just received a letter from Barr refusing to comply with our subpoena for the unredacted Mueller report [and] underlying materials,” Jayapal wrote. “That is unacceptable. I will urge the Chairman to proceed [with] contempt citation. This is extremely dangerous behavior from Trump and Barr.”
The growing list
The likes of Ocasio-Cortez and Jayapal have been joined by countless others in calling for Barr’s resignation. Among them is 2020 contender and former Vice President Joe Biden.
“I think he’s lost the confidence of the American people,” Biden said of Barr. “I think he should [resign].”
But why? What did Barr do so wrong that has made Dems call for him should step down?
In short, nothing.
Much ado about nothing
Indeed, Barr first earned the ire of the Democrats when he released a summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s findings in his investigation of Trump-Russia collusion. As a result, critics accused Barr of being a Trump-loyalist and alleged that he “did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of Mueller’s report.
Things got worse for Barr when he subsequently decided to release a redacted version of the Mueller Report. Although he welcomed lawmakers to peruse an even less-redacted version in private, Democrats, convinced that he was hiding something, were still not satisfied.
Finally, after being grilled for over five hours by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, Barr decided that because the terms were unfair he was not going to attend the House committee’s hearing to go through the same thing the next day.
In other words, Barr has done nothing wrong — and in fact, has done more than he is required to. After all, he didn’t have to release any of the Mueller
It’s time to move on, Dems. Just like in the probe of Trump-Russia collusion, there’s nothing to see here.
