Ocasio-Cortez calls for complete abolishment of entire Supreme Court over ruling that limits EPA regulatory power

Democrats have been hugely displeased with several recent rulings from the Republican-appointed majority of the Supreme Court, and that has resulted in some rather radical proposals from certain politicians and pundits to try and counter the high court’s decision-making majority.

One of those is far-left progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who essentially called for the complete abolishment of the Supreme Court after it ruled Thursday to limit the regulatory overreach of the Environmental Protection Agency, the Daily Wire reported.

Her diatribe continued following news that the high court had taken up a case with major implications about state legislatures and election rules, and followed her baseless accusations that certain justices had lied during their confirmation hearings and should be impeached and removed from the court.

Abolish the entire Supreme Court

SCOTUSblog reported Thursday that the Supreme Court had ruled 6-3 that the EPA had overstepped its authority with regard to the regulation of greenhouse gas emissions for power plants.

The court did not say — as many Democrats erroneously claim — that the EPA has no power to regulate such emissions or anything else related to the climate or environment, but merely stressed that the agency needed explicit authority from Congress, and not just a blank check, in order to do so.

According to a tweet from Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, however, the high court’s EPA ruling was “Catastrophic. A filibuster carveout is not enough. We need to reform or do away with the whole thing, for the sake of the planet.”

A supposed “judicial coup” … of telling Congress to do its job

The fiery New York congresswoman wasn’t done yet, though, as just a few hours later she exploded once more upon hearing the news that the Supreme Court had agreed to take up in the next term a case out of North Carolina regarding state legislatures and election laws.

SCOTUSblog reported that the case, Moore v. Harper, will test the limits of what is known as the “independent state legislature” theory which posits that the Constitution granted sole authority over the governing of federal election procedures to each state’s legislature and that state courts had little, if any, jurisdiction to interfere in the legislatures’ decisions.

Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, “We are witnessing a judicial coup in process. If the President and Congress do not restrain the Court now, the Court is signaling they will come for the Presidential election next. All our leaders — regardless of party — must recognize this Constitutional crisis for what it is.”

She added in a follow-up post, “At this point we should be well beyond partisanship. Members of Congress have sworn an oath to the Constitution. It is our duty to check the Court’s gross overreach of power in violating people’s inalienable rights and seizing for itself the powers of Congress and the President.”

Impeach and remove conservative justices

The Daily Wire noted that Ocasio-Cortez’s anti-court hysteria on Thursday came less than a week after the progressive congresswoman, in response to the Supreme Court overruling Roe v. Wade and returning the right to regulate abortions back to the separate states, called for certain Republican-appointed justices to be immediately impeached and removed from the bench.

Ocasio-Cortez had claimed — without evidence — that certain justices had lied during their Senate confirmation hearings about upholding court precedents, such as Roe, but the reality is that those jurists, like all others before and after them, had merely acknowledged the general deference that is given to past precedent but never explicitly said that they would never overturn prior precedents — as has been done hundreds of times before throughout our nation’s history.
