For several weeks now, we’ve been told that special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation is nearly done.
But Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) doesn’t see it that way. In an appearance on America’s Newsroom on Monday, Nunes predicted the investigation could drag on for as long as another year instead.
Not Done Yet
Nunes, the ranking House Intelligence Committee member for the Republicans, says this investigation should have been wrapped up quite some time ago.
However, based on what he has seen recently, Nunes thinks Mueller is far from being done. Watch below:
Nunes pointed out that the original rumors about the end of the Mueller investigation started from a leak to CNN. He questioned both the source and the rumor itself.
Now that Mueller has pivoted to investigating President Donald Trump’s business practices, Nunes thinks it’s unlikely this investigation will be wrapping up anytime soon.
He did admit there is a chance it could end in a week or two, but he said he could also see it going on for as long as another year before Mueller is completely done, especially with the new business investigations.
Impeachment and Re-Election
As for impeachment, Nunes says he just doesn’t see it happening, despite the Democrats’ hype.
“If there’s something to impeach this president for then we could impeach him but I don’t know what possibly they have to impeach him on, given that we’ve spent over two years looking for something that we just don’t have. It’s just elusive,” Nunes said. “There’s just no evidence of the Trump campaign colluding with Russians,” he added.
Even so, Mueller’s investigation continues, apparently for no other reason to hurt Trump. Additionally, and as expected, we have seen Democrats do exactly what we all expected them to do and even warned Americans about before the election. They are launching investigation after investigation into Trump and every aspect of his life.
Former South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy has even chimed in, stating these investigations into Trump are about nothing more than the 2020 election.
If Nunes and Gowdy are right, don’t expect a report from Mueller until we’re much closer to the actual 2020 election.
