The city of Seattle had identified a location for a needed new children's play area, where there were no other options within a 10-15 minute walk, and a private donor had come forward promising to cover the $550,000 cost.

But now it won't happen, because of objections from the LGBT community whose members complained it would infringe on their rights to have an unofficial nude beach in the vicinity.

report from the Post Millennial said the plans for the children's playground at Denny Blaine Park on Lake Washington have been killed because of the "nudist beach" that is popular with the city's LGBT community.

Those members created a "backlash" to the city, so the parks and recreation agency decided to pull back on plans for the children.

Parks spokeswoman Christina Hirsch said in an online statement that, "While this area of our city still lacks accessible play equipment for kids and families, we understand the feedback that this particular park is not the best location, and we will evaluate other location alternatives."

The statement continued, "Many members of the public spoke to the importance of this space and use as a beach and the cohesion it has brought within the LGBTQIA+ community. Additionally, the community spoke of the unintended consequences adding a play area to this beach site would possibly bring. This is why we have a robust community engagement process, ensuring all people – including those who have been historically marginalized – have their voices heard and perspectives considered."

The report detailed how Colleen Kimseylove told a local broadcaster the beach was "a place for the weird and the wonderful."

The activists claimed LGBT community members have no other "spaces to go to."

A Fox report noted that the nude beach was "popular," but was not set up formally, having just been used by the LGBT community for decades.
