Nikki Haley loses major donor after South Carolina loss

 February 26, 2024

Republican presidential candidate Niki Haley just lost a major donor.

Fox News reports, "[Americans For Prosperity] Action, the conservative wing of the powerful and influential conservative Americans for Prosperity, funded by the billionaire Koch Brothers, has pulled funding for the presidential campaign of Nikki Haley."

This comes after former President Donald Trump handily beat Haley in the South Carolina primary - the primary of Haley's home state.

Trump finished with nearly 60% of the vote, which amounts to about 452,000 votes, while Haley only received 39.5% support, or about 299,000 votes.

No path to victory

Americans for Prosperity CEO Emily Seidel revealed that the group would no longer be financially supporting Haley in a letter that Seidel sent to her staff.

"[Haley] has made it clear that she will continue to fight and we wholeheartedly support her in this effort. But given the challenges in the primary states ahead, we don’t believe any outside group can make a material difference to widen her path to victory," Seidel wrote.

As you, the reader, can see, although the group has pulled financial support from Haley, it is still endorsing Haley in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.

Seidel went on to explain why her group will not support Trump, writing:

If Donald Trump is at the top of the Republican ticket, the risk of one-party rule by a Democratic Party captured by the Progressive Left is severe and would do irreparable damage to the country. The last three election cycles have painted a very clear picture of what we can expect from voters who consistently rejected Donald Trump and his impact on the Republican party brand.

In other words, Seidel does not believe that Trump can win the general election.

Trump weighs in

On social media, Trump weighed in on the APA's withdrawal of funding from Haley's campaign.

"AMERICAN’S FOR NO PROSPERITY HAVE JUST STATED THAT HALEY HAS NO CHANCE TO WIN, AND THEY WILL STOP FUNDING HER CAMPAIGN, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!" the former president wrote.

With Trump's victory in South Carolina, it appears to be a foregone conclusion that he will win the Republican Party's presidential nomination.

Haley, however, is still refusing to drop out of the running.

Fox News reports:

Nikki Haley isn't giving up. Despite a dismal primary performance in her own home state of South Carolina, the former U.N. ambassador is making good on her promise to stay in the GOP presidential primary race and is placing her bets on next month's Super Tuesday contests when 15 states — or just over a third of all delegates — are up for grabs.
