Newly released document shows what the FBI took from Mar-a-Lago

A judge, on Friday, unsealed the search warrant and the property receipt for the FBI’s raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, Fox News reports

Both documents can be read in their entirety here.

The property receipt lists what the FBI took from Trump’s residence, which amounts to over 20 boxes of items. A description is provided for each item of seized property, but most of the descriptions are extremely vague, such that one cannot guess the contents.

Confidential material?

According to Fox News, the property receipt suggests that the FBI seized one set of top secret/sensitive compartmented information documents, four sets of top secret documents, three sets of secret documents, and three sets of confidential documents from the residence.

This hints at the ostensible impetus behind the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) investigation of Trump, namely, the recovery of sensitive, classified documents. But, the former president and his legal team dispute this.

Trump has stated several times over the past week that all of the documents being kept at Mar-a-Lago are declassified. He has also revealed that, with regard to these documents, he has been cooperating with the FBI, even installing a lock on the storage area at the FBI’s request.

Trump has further stated that the FBI could have simply asked for the documents and he would have handed them over. Accordingly, the former president has expressed his belief that the FBI didn’t take this route because the real nature of the raid is political.

At the moment, the simple fact is that we do not know a whole lot about the documents seized from Mar-a-Lago by the FBI. All we have is Trump’s word and the property receipt.

A twist

We also have information from insiders. And, the latest reports suggest that the FBI seized documents from Mar-a-Lago that were protected by the attorney-client privilege and even the executive privilege. This has yet to be confirmed.

Trump has responded to the news by calling upon the FBI to return the protected documents.

The former president released a statement, saying:

Oh great! It has just been learned that the FBI, in its now famous raid of Mar-a-Lago, took boxes of privileged ‘attorney-client’ material, and also ‘executive’ privileged material, which they knowingly should not have taken. By copy of this TRUTH, I respectfully request that these documents be immediately returned to the location from which they were taken. Thank you!

There are still a lot of unknowns here. But, it is still looking as though the FBI, the DOJ, and the Democrats, in general, are going to end up being the losers here.
