A newly released poll has former President Donald Trump dominating President Joe Biden in a hypothetical 2024 general election matchup.
The poll comes from the Washington Post and ABC News. Some 1,006 U.S. adults were surveyed during a period from Sept. 15 to Sept. 20, 2023. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
Recent national election polls are including a question that puts Biden up against Trump in the 2024 general election because Biden and Trump are the clear frontrunners to win their respective parties' nominations.
The Post-ABC poll is no exception. What is surprising, though, is the result that the pollster got, which is Trump beating Biden by a whopping 10 percentage points: 52% to 42%.
What makes this surprising is that most recent polling has had Trump and Biden in a virtual tie, although it has been clear that Trump, as of late, has been gaining momentum.
The Post-ABC poll, however, has Trump up by 10, which is clearly outside the poll's margin for error. And, as a result of this poll, Trump now has, on average, a 1.2 percentage point lead on Biden in 2024 general election polls.
The Post, of course, is no fan of Trump. So, it is not surprising that, in its report on the poll, the outlet attempted to, essentially, discredit its own poll.
The Post reported, "The sizable margin of Trump’s lead in this survey is significantly at odds with other public polls that show the general election contest a virtual dead heat."
"The difference between this poll and others, as well as the unusual makeup of Trump’s and Biden’s coalitions in this survey, suggest it is probably an outlier," the outlet added.
Apparently, for the Post, it is better to undermine its own credit as a pollster than to allow any poll result that is beneficial to Trump.
Following the poll's release, Trump took to social media to expose the way the mainstream media is trying to explain away the poll's result.
"To show everyone how FAKE the News Media is, ABC WORLD NEWS on Sunday Morning, their big News Show, covered every aspect of a Poll on Crooked Joe Biden, except for the biggest and most important FACT, that he was losing to a person known as DONALD J. TRUMP by a staggering 10 Points," Trump, on Sunday, wrote.
He continued, "They spend millions of dollars on these polls, and then, if the result isn’t what they want it to be, refuse to properly report the results."
Trump concluded, "This is what Fake News is all about, and the public has quickly gotten wise to it. ABC FAKE NEWS SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!!"
