Newly reported details spark more questions about Ilhan Omar’s marriage

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s previous marriage to Ahmed N. Elmi is back in the news — and it’s not just conservative news anymore.

Evidence that Ilhan Omar may very well have committed perjury in her divorce hearing is getting harder to ignore, including a clue that appears to show Elmi recently worked with Omar’s sister — though Omar swore in 2017 that she had had no way of contacting or locating him since 2011.

Hidden in the code

The Daily Signal reports:

Rep. Ilhan Omar swore under oath in a 2017 divorce filing that she hadn’t seen her husband Ahmed N. Elmi in six years and didn’t know anyone who might be able to locate him—yet he appears to have designed a website for Omar’s sister this year, according to data hidden in the source code of that website.

It is important to know that perjury holds a five-year sentence in the state of Minnesota. The article continues, saying:

The ties between Omar’s supposedly long-lost ex-husband and Omar’s sister appear to contradict Omar’s sworn testimony and add to the body of evidence that the ex-husband may be her brother, making all three siblings.

This could be huge. Not only does it seem that Omar committed perjury, but this supports the long-held allegations that she married her own brother.

More questions arise

Omar also faces questions about potential tax irregularities. Earlier this month, documents released by a state campaign finance board revealed that Omar appears to have filed taxes jointly with her now-husband, Ahmed Hirsi, for two years while she was still legally married to Elmi.

Omar’s marriage to Elmi has been a topic of discussion since 2016 when she first ran for the House. Omar has generally dismissed questions on the topic as politically-motivated “baseless rumors,” and the friendly mainstream media hasn’t been interested in digging any deeper. But independent journalist David Steinberg hasn’t given up on the investigation — see his compiled reporting here.

And now that more mainstream outlets like the Star Tribune are finally picking up the story, Omar may finally be forced to explain what happened.

The Star Tribune reported on Saturday:

New investigative documents released by a state agency have given fresh life to lingering questions about the marital history of Rep. Ilhan Omar and whether she once married a man — possibly her own brother — to skirt immigration laws.

Serious implications

The allegation itself is a big one. However, with the motive of skirting immigration law, it would make sense. If it proves to be true, we have a representative in Congress who married her own brother to get around immigration laws.

If any of these allegations are true, Omar is done. As Fox 9 reports:

While the exact documents the publication obtained have yet to be verified by FOX 9, attorneys say if fraud is uncovered in this case, removal from office and even denaturalization are possibilities.

She could face removal from her position and even possible denaturalization. If she indeed married her brother to get around immigration laws, revoking her citizenship would make sense.

Minnesota state Rep. Steve Drazkowski (R) called for an ethics investigation into Omar on Tuesday, saying, “Miss Omar appears to be a serial career criminal and should not have access to our nation’s highest secrets and intelligence.”
