The sports world was shaken up last week after a player for the New England Patriots was arrested at an airport.Β

According to The Daily Wire, defensive back Jack Jones was apprehended by authorities after it was discovered that he attempted to take two handguns on a plane at Boston Logan International Airport.

The guns were reportedly stashed in his carry-on luggage.

Massachusetts State Police eventually arrested the young NFL player. He was transported to State Police-Logan Airport Barracks, eventually posting bail.

Multiple charges

Jones has a mountain of legal issues ahead, as he was charged with multiple crimes, including "possession of a concealed weapon inside a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a firearm ID card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large-capacity feeding device."

The Patriots management revealed that they were aware of the incident, but refused further comment. The team issued a statement.

"We have been notified that Jack Jones was arrested at Logan Airport earlier today," the statement said. "We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be commenting further at this time."

A federal court date is scheduled for next week, where he'll appear for his arraignment.

Odd twist

Social media users quickly pointed out that Jones had recently criticized NBA player Ja Morant over gun issues.

"@JaMorant dumb.. you letting social media and yo pride ruin yo real money. Put them guns down and run that money up. Make one of yo homies sign up for security or concealed carry if you feel like you need it that bad.. but you the bread winner you gotta start acting like it.." Jones tweeted.

Morant had just stirred headlines earlier after it was announced that he was hit with a 25-game suspension over a social media video in which he can be seen waving a firearm.

Only time will tell if Jones is able to work out a deal, but given how prosecutors in the state treat gun control laws, he could be in serious legal trouble.
