NC Rep. Cawthorn allowed to run for reelection after judge shoots down leftist lawsuit

Radical progressives across the country have continued attempts to discredit and destroy the reputations of a number of Republican lawmakers who they accuse of helping to facilitate the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, and North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R) was at or near the top of their list.

However, according to the Daily Caller, a legal attempt to block Cawthorn from running for reelection in the November midterms was just shot down by a federal judge, paving the way for Cawthorn to resume his intentions to secure a second term in the House.

The decision, issued by Chief District Court Judge Richard Myers, marked a massive blow to the left’s crusade to attack and cancel as many Republican candidates as possible, using the Jan. 6 Capitol riots as their primary ammunition.

The lawsuit

The radical leftist organization known as Free Speech for People had filed suit with the North Carolina Board of Elections, citing his alleged involvement in what took place on Jan. 6, 2021.

The organization argued that Cawthorn should be “constitutionally disqualified from public office under the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution based on reasonable suspicion that he helped facilitate the January 6, 2021 insurrection.”

Cawthorn, a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump, has denied the allegations that he was in any way, shape, or form complicit in the Capitol breach.

“I love this country and have never engaged in, or would ever engage in, an insurrection against the United States,” the young GOP lawmaker said.

He added: “Regardless of this fact, the Disqualification clause and North Carolina’s Challenge Statute is being used as a weapon by liberal Democrats to attempt to defeat our democracy by having state bureaucrats, rather than the People, choose who will represent North Carolina in Congress.”

Cawthorn celebrates

Naturally, Cawthorn and his large base of support in North Carolina were thrilled with the federal judge’s ruling. The lawmaker issued a statement to the Daily Caller to that effect.

“This is a major victory for the people, and a real opportunity for the American people to say, ‘if you come after our representatives, you’re going to get beat,'” he said.

“The judge ruled with an exclamation point. That’s important because we are the people’s voice in government and to defend the right of free speech in America, so this is a great precedent to set.”
