Mysterious building on Jeffrey Epstein’s private island raises questions

A mysterious building on one of Jeffrey Epstein’s private islands has many asking questions about what role, if any, it played in his alleged crimes.

Epstein, a multimillionaire with ties to high-profile politicians like former President Bill Clinton, is currently facing up to 45 years in prison on charges related to the sex trafficking of minors, according to The New York Times.

“The Temple”

Epstein owns two islands in the U.S. Virgin Islands, one officially called Little St. James and the other, Big St. James. The locals, however, have long called them “Pedophile Island” because, according to them, Epstein brought young girls there who “couldn’t have been over 16,” Vanity Fair reports.

It is in the far southwestern corner of Little St. James that the curious building sits alone — with nothing else in sight.

Roughly 30 feet tall, its features include a walkway up to the entrance with golden statues on each side, a monolithic wooden door with a gold-painted arch, and blue and white horizontal stripes on the exterior walls.

At one point, the building also had a golden dome on top, but it was removed by hurricane gusts in 2017, according to the Daily Caller.

That wasn’t in the plans

The fact that the building is located at such a distance from the rest of the structures on the island — and that it belongs to a convicted sex offender — is already enough to raise some eyebrows. But that’s not the worst of it.

Plans for the building date back to 2010, NBC News reports, and they are for a music hall: a 10-foot-tall octagonal pavilion with five porches around it.

In the pavilion was supposed to be a grand piano; Epstein, according to friends, is a talented pianist. However, what Epstein built was nothing even close to the plans — and that didn’t seem to bother authorities.

But perhaps the most worrisome feature of all is a door that locks from the outside.

James Booth, a contractor, told Business Insider that “it’s styled like what you might see on a castle, with what appears to be a reinforcing lock bar across the face. What makes it peculiar is that if you wanted to keep people out, the bar would be placed inside the building, [but the] locking bar appears to be placed on the outside…as if it were intended to lock people in.”

What is Epstein hiding? With any luck, authorities will soon be able to uncover the truth.
