An elderly woman was taken from her family far too early.
In Gulfport, Mississippi, a 75-year-old woman was reportedly mauled to death by pit bulls.
Neighbors apparently heard horrific sounds coming from the woman’s home and called police.
By the time the police got there, though, it was too late.
An ambulance was called, but the woman reportedly died from her wounds by the time it arrived.
While her name has not yet been released, the woman seems to have been well-liked in the community.
According to neighbors, she traveled throughout the neighborhood to collect cans.
Part of the money she made from the collections was usually donated to the local church.
Not the First Time
This was not the first time these particular dogs have found themselves in trouble.
One neighbor, Diana Jones, said she had filed a complaint over the dogs before.
She stated one of the pit bulls that attacked the elderly woman had previously broken into her yard.
The dog then attacked her retriever.
For years, people have been asking for some type of legislation against this particular breed.
Pit bull owners are constantly on the defensive, citing cases where the dogs are doing good.
Opponents, however, cite cases such as this and point to the breed being extremely popular in the illegal dog fighting circuits.
With data showing more attacks and bites against people than any other breed, incidents like this will only make those calls louder.
