It is sad when any young American loses his or her life, but especially so when the loss is as senseless as this.

Lake Little, an 18-year-old beauty pageant contestant in Mississippi, died when the plane she was piloting crashed on a golf course over the weekend, according to reports.

Tragic Loss

Lake was the daughter of local Alderman David Little. Early Saturday afternoon, her self-piloted plane crashed on the golf course at the University of Mississippi.

Late Saturday night, she succumbed to the injuries from the crash and passed away.

While hoping to win the Mississippi beauty pageant, her life’s dream was to become a professional pilot. Lake was actually doing touch and go landing practice at the time of the accident.

The single-engine plane crashed onto the golf course near the 17th tee, according to reports.

There were no injuries reported during the crash other than those of Lake, who suffered massive burns all over her body.

Bright Future Goes Dim

This loss will no doubt hit the community very hard. Had Lake won the beauty pageant, she would have represented the tourism industry of Mississippi over the next year.

Lake had only recently received her private pilot’s license and stated her dream was to fly for FedEx.

She graduated with honors from her high school, Starkville Academy, and was slated to start at Southern Mississippi this coming September. According to friends and family, she planned on studying audiology and speech pathology.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown. The crash is currently being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.

Rest in peace, Lake. You were taken far too young.
