Minnesota Republican blasts Pelosi, House Dems over attempt to ‘disenfranchise’ Iowa voters

The chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) exposed earlier this week House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) plans “to subvert democracy” with an attempt to overturn the certified results of November’s U.S. House election in Iowa’s 2nd District.

According to Breitbart, Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) said during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Sunday that Pelosi and her cohorts were disenfranchising Iowa voters.

“Nancy Pelosi and her radical left socialist Democrat majority are literally trying to subvert democracy and overturn certified election results, and they are going to deny any Iowa voter,” Emmer charged. “Frankly, they’re going to disenfranchise the Iowa voters who have already decided this thing.”

Emmer went on to promise to hold Democrats accountable “for this partisan power grab” in the 2022 midterm elections.

A fight for Congress

The race in question involved Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks, a current congresswoman who faced off against Democrat Rita Hart in what has been one of the closest elections in recent memory.

With close to 400,000 votes be cast, Miller-Meeks won by a margin of only six votes last November, Breitbart reported. Subsequent recounts affirmed her win.

But that didn’t stop Hart from challenging the results. Instead of going through the courts, however, Hart attempted to win a spot in the lower chamber with the help of the House Committee on Administration, which has a six-to-three Democratic majority.

Hart claimed that there were 22 votes for her that should have been counted but were not.

Pelosi, for her part, had reportedly left the door open to Hart winning her appeal.

The latest developments

Perhaps due to criticism from Emmer and others, Hart finally opted to withdraw her challenge on Wednesday.

“Since Election Day, and throughout this entire process, my mission has been about ensuring the voices of Iowans who followed the law are not silenced,” Hart said in a statement, according to Breitbart. “I am saddened that some Iowans’ votes will not count through no fault of their own.”

A spokesperson for Emmer’s NRCC later released a statement saying in part, “We are glad Rita Hart finally came to her senses and admitted the truth: the people of Iowa chose Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks to represent them in Congress.” And that’s that.
