Several current and former top White House officials have been subjected to DOJ and FBI investigations regarding the improper storage of classified documents.

According to the Daily Wire, former Vice President Mike Pence, who was found to have had documents in his possession at his Indiana home, will not face charges.

The news was revealed in a letter sent to multiple media organizations. It was made clear that the Justice Department does not plan on pursuing any charges against the former vice president.

The revelation came just as Pence is set to kick off his 2024 presidential campaign, according to reports.

What's going on?

The letter sent to Pence's lawyer, which was obtained by media outlets, made clear that Pence will not face charges after the investigation was completed recently.

"The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department’s National Security Division have conducted an investigation into the potential mishandling of classified information,”the letter to Pence's lawyer read.

It added: "Based on the results of that investigation, no criminal charges will be sought."

Many questioned why Pence, who didn't have the power to declassify as a vice president, was exonerated so quickly as compared to a similar, ongoing investigation into former President Donald Trump's handling of documents, of which he was allowed to declassify.

Trump addressed the situation in a Truth Social post. "That’s great, but when am I going to be fully exonerated? I’m at least as innocent as he is."

Social media reacts

Some on social media argued that Pence was essentially given a pass since he immediately turned over the classified documents discovered by the FBI at his Indiana home. Still, others pointed out that Pence, and anyone else who wasn't a president with the authority to declassify, should not be given a free pass.

"Pence willingly handed everything over to the DOJ...Trump did not/probably has not. That's the difference," one Twitter user wrote.

Another Twitter user added: Isn’t it interesting how the Biden Dept of Justice closed the classified docs investigation against then VP Mike Pence, but hired a special prosecutor to go after President Trump for his declassified docs? Pence is a deep state establishment traitor snake!"

Only time will tell what happens in Trump's case, but it looks like others are getting different levels of treatment.
