Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer enacted some of the toughest measures in the country in hopes of mitigating the spread of COVID-19 in her state — but while the Democrat may be pedaling “social distancing,” it seems she isn’t engaging in the practice herself.
Breitbart reported Tuesday that Whitmer was not only caught on camera well within six feet of other people at a protest sparked by the recent death of 46-year-old George Floyd, but she was also caught not wearing a face mask at times — directly contradicting her own Monday promise to MSNBC that she “wore a mask the whole time” she was on the streets.
Do as I say…
A common theme from Democrats throughout the coronavirus pandemic has been “do as I say — or else.” Meanwhile, elected Democrats around the country have been regularly violating their own lockdown orders.
Whitmer is no better than the likes of Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, who shut down travel from Illinois but allowed his wife and daughter to flee to Florida amid the pandemic, as the Chicago Tribune reported.
Indeed, Whitmer chided protesters who were upset about her strict lockdown measures earlier this year. “We know that when people gather that way without masks, they were within close proximity, they were touching one another, that that’s how COVID-19 spreads,” the Democrat governor said in April, according to Breitbart.
Now, it seems she’s changed her tune. Whitmer joined Black Lives Matter protesters on the streets this month — and though she promised she wore a mask the whole time, video shared by Breitbart shows that wasn’t the case.
The bottom line
The argument being made by conservatives is not that the protests should have been stopped; rather, it is that if you are going to allow protests, why not allow religious gatherings? And why not allow small businesses to reopen?
Both religious groups and business owners have stated they will follow social distancing guidelines and take precautions to protect worshipers and consumers alike, to no avail.
The hypocrisy by Democrats has been astonishing throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, but the last few days have really taken the cake.
It seems the Dems’ new mantra is “do as I say, not as I do.”
