Michelle Obama announces launch of higher education initiative

Former First Lady Michelle Obama just announced a new initiative to help young Americans with college success.

This wasn’t quite the announcement that many Democrats were hoping for, as the current crop of candidates fails to galvanize Democrat voters.

Indeed, rumors of a potential Michelle Obama presidential run have been swirling for months, but it seems that Obama has her eye squarely set on the world of philanthropy.

Success for college students

According to Breitbart, Obama made the official launch announcement on Tuesday, disclosing that the initiative aims to help young Americans get into and through college.

The project takes the form of a video series, made in partnership with Reach Higher, one of Michelle Obama’s initiatives from her time in the White House.

According to a statement from officials at Reach Higher, Obama seeks “to inspire every student in America to take charge of their future by completing their education past high school, whether at a professional training program, a community college, or a four-year college or university.”

The videos — produced by media company ATTN: — will follow college students who overcame significant odds as they make their way through their first year of college.

Obama said in her announcement: “We’re teaming up with ATTN: to share the stories and experiences of four first-year college students from across the country. Each of them has overcome tremendous odds to get where they are. And throughout the year, they’ll tell us what that first year of college is really like.”

Chances of presidential bid fade

With Obama launching her latest philanthropic effort, any chance of her saving the Democrats in 2020 seems to be all but gone.

Democrats have been begging for an Obama campaign for months. Current frontrunner Joe Biden’s campaign is on the rocks, and both Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have been widely panned for being too liberal for large portions of the electorate. Democrats are desperate, and many believe Michelle Obama is the solution.

While Mrs. Obama has virtually no qualifications for the presidency, she has the ability to appeal to the entire spectrum of the Democrat voter base.

Democrats don’t need a qualified candidate, they need a likable candidate. Unfortunately for them, it seems they won’t be getting their wish this time around. Michelle Obama, for the time being, is staying as far away from politics as possible.
