First Lady Melania Trump confirmed Tuesday that she doesn’t always back her husband’s style of communication, saying plainly that she doesn’t “always agree with the way he says things,” according to the Washington Examiner.
But that doesn’t mean she wants President Donald Trump to take a break from Twitter.
A lighthearted moment
The first lady’s remarks came during a campaign stop in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. There, she shared a lighthearted moment with the crowd, who chuckled when she said she isn’t always in favor of the president’s communication style.
“For the first time history, the citizens of this country get to hear directly and instantly from their president every single day through social media,” Melania Trump said, according to the Washington Examiner. “I do not always agree with the way he says things. But it is important to him that he speaks directly to the people he serves.”
It’s not the first time the first lady has expressed such a sentiment. According to the Examiner, she also spoke of her husband’s bluntness at the Republican National Convention in August.
“We all know Donald Trump makes no secrets about how he feels about things,” she said, again prompting a laugh from the crowd.
“Total honesty is what we as citizens deserve from our president,” Melania Trump added. “Whether you like it or not, you always know what he’s thinking. And that’s because he’s an authentic person who loves this country and its people.”
Melania on the attack
Over the past few years, it’s become clear that Melania Trump takes a slightly different approach than her husband, fulfilling her duties as the first lady with a quiet resolve. Accordingly, listening to Melania Trump tear into Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden later during Tuesday’s rally was a change of pace.
“Joe Biden attacked Trump’s decision to close travel from China,” she said in Pennsylvania, according to Fox News. “He called it ‘xenophobic hysteria.’ Now he suggests that he could have done a better job.” Melania continued:
Well, the American people can look at Joe Biden’s 36 years in Congress and eight years [as] the VP and determine if he will be able to finally get something done for the American people.
According to Fox, the first lady also spoke about Biden’s “policy and socialist agenda,” saying that it “will destroy America and all that has been built in the past four years.”
And of course, she didn’t spare the mainstream media. “What drives the news are the handpicked, angry, and often baseless claims from anonymous sources or angry ex-employees who are only trying to distract from the important work happening inside the White House,” she declared, according to Fox.
It is indeed rare for us to hear these candid messages from the first lady herself — but it’s certainly more than welcome.
