McEnany slams Biden admin for politicizing COVID-19 pandemic

Amid rising concerns about the potential threat of the omicron variant of COVID-19, some critics of President Joe Biden are redoubling their opposition to his policies.

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany accused the president of having “politicized” the pandemic.

“Go get the booster shot today”

In a recent Fox News Channel appearance, she cited the perceived hypocrisy of the Biden administration’s fearmongering on the issue of COVID-19. That accusation came during a panel discussion of the latest news on a recent episode of Outnumbered. Specifically, McEnany referenced an earlier speech by the president regarding the latest variant of concern.

Biden discussed travel restrictions authorized by his administration, which did not go into effect until this week. He also urged all Americans to receive a vaccine or booster shot and wear masks in public situations.

“If you’re 18 years or over and got fully vaccinated before June the 1st, go get the booster shot today,” he advised. “They’re free, and they’re available at 80,000 locations coast to coast. A fully vaccinated boosted person is the most protected against COVID.”

Of course, he had recently gone shopping during a Thanksgiving getaway without a face mask.

During the initial phase of the pandemic, Biden notably denounced then-President Donald Trump’s travel bans as “xenophobic” and unfairly targeting “black and brown people” in African nations.

“Now all of a sudden travel restrictions work”

“At the end of the day, no one has politicized this virus more than President Joe Biden,” McEnany concluded. “You have the mask-wearing incident there, you have [Vice President] Kamala [Harris] saying on the campaign trail, ‘If Donald Trump tells me to take the vaccine, I won’t take it.’ You had Biden mimicking that rhetoric.”

Upon entering office, however, she noted that the administration changed its tune.

“That should have been the message back on the campaign trail as well on travel restrictions,” McEnany said. “Trump’s xenophobic for this, and now all of a sudden travel restrictions work. Are you sensing a pattern here? Because you should.”

Others on the panel similarly called out the president’s perceived hypocrisy, echoing McEnany’s overarching diagnosis: “It is a politicization of this virus on the campaign trail. They dismiss the policies — they eschewed the policies they are now putting in place. They were always effective. Where’s the consistency rather than outright politicization of COVID-19?”
