White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany unleashed her fury on a group of Democratic lawmakers Wednesday after they were exposed flouting the coronavirus-related restrictions that they’d imposed on their constituents.
The Hill reported that McEnany displayed during a press briefing at the White House what she described as “images of Democrat hypocrisy playing on loop.”
Among those called out by the press secretary were California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D), and U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
“Quite clearly, these Democrats do not follow their own edicts,” McEnany said Wednesday, according to The Hill. “They act in a way their own citizens are barred from acting.”
McEnany targets Dem hypocrisy
The photos McEnany showed of Newsom were taken earlier this month, when the Democrat governor was caught eating indoors with a group of maskless people at a fancy Napa County restaurant, as the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
At the time, California’s own coronavirus guidelines limited “social situations that bring together people from different households at the same time in a single space or place” to no more than three households. And no one disputes that more than three households were represented at that event.
The photos that McEnany displayed of Lightfoot were from November, when the mayor joined a massive crowd in the street to celebrate Joe Biden’s “victory” in the 2020 election. Besides ignoring social distancing guidelines, she also was photographed not wearing a mask, as Townhall reported at the time.
Less than a week later, Lightfoot called for the people of Chicago to cancel their Thanksgiving Day plans. She also put out a more general “Stay-at-Home Advisory.”
Finally, McEnany put up photos of perhaps the most infamous case yet of a Democrat flouting coronavirus restrictions: Pelosi at a San Francisco hair salon.
In August, the House speaker was caught getting her hair done at the time when such businesses were supposed to be closed in San Francisco, as the city was under a lockdown, Breitbart reported. Instead of accepting that by her own standards, she was wrong, Pelosi later blamed the salon.
Rules for thee, not for me
These were the three incidents that McEnany zeroed in on, but the truth is, she could have easily put up countless pictures of other Democrats who have ignored their own rules at their convenience.
The “rules for thee, not for me” attitude is certainly standing strong on the left.
