McConnell: Obama and I are both ‘descendants of slaveholders’
When the media attempted to nail Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), they instead exposed Barack Obama’s secret.
NBC News asked McConnell about his position on reparations, considering that his ancestors owned slaves, to which he replied that it puts him in Obama’s camp. Both Mitch McConnell and Barack Obama are the descendants of slave owners.
A reporter sniped at McConnell during a press conference by asking if McConnell was aware that his family had been slave owners.
McConnell fired back: “You know, I find myself once again in the same position as President Obama. We both oppose reparations, and we both are the descendants of slaveholders.”
McConnell had previously stated, “None of us currently living are responsible,” in relation to reparations. Neither Barack Obama or Mitch McConnell is responsible for their ancestors owning slaves.
The New York Post reports: “In 2007, a genealogist traced Obama’s roots and uncovered two slave owners in his maternal ancestry.”
Many Americans are descended from slave owners, but that doesn’t make them a party to those atrocities. Liberals can’t quite seem to wrap their minds around the fact that none of us can control what our forebears did hundreds of years ago.
Look toward the future
While slavery was certainly an affliction in our past, we work to fix our mistakes by making a better future for all Americans. Reparations are not the answer; if people like Obama are to be believed.
Business Insider reports:
On the campaign trail in August 2008, Obama opposed direct cash reparations, saying, “I have said in the past — and I’ll repeat again — that the best reparations we can provide are good schools in the inner city and jobs for people who are unemployed.”
Obama is exactly correct, the best way to wipe away slavery is to ensure liberty for all. Liberty and opportunity for all Americans, especially those who may still be affected by the past.
Providing education and jobs is what draws people to immigrate here. The past can’t be changed but we continue to make this country a better place.
The media that is more interested in hit jobs should take note of this. Instead of dividing us on non-issues we should be united around making this country greater.
