Maxine Waters says it is time to get ready to impeach Donald Trump
Anyone who has heard her speak knows that Rep. Maxine Waters is several light bulbs short of a chandelier.
And her trend of making insane statements continued last week when she, again, called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.
Based On Her Emotions.
There is no case to impeach the president other than the fact that Rep. Waters does not like him and the fact that he defeated Hillary Clinton for the presidency.
The California representative spoke at the California Democratic Party’s annual convention in San Diego and promised, as she has for more than a year, that impeachment is on the way.
“I say it is time to get ready for impeachment,” she said to a cheering crowd, The Hill reported. “I cannot wait and I’m counting on special counsel Mueller to connect the dots.”
“I believe he’s getting closer to discovering what Americans were and are involved in collusion with the Russians,” she said.
“It’s absolutely appalling to learn … your many allies are all connected to the oligarchs of Russia, the Kremlin and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin,” she said.
About The Money.
The fact is that Rep. Waters is not as dumb as she seems, and she seems pretty dumb.
She knows, or should know, that even if it was proven that President Trump sat in the Kremlin with Russian President Vladimir Putin and planned a strategy for his winning the presidency it still would not be an impeachable offense.
There is no crime called collusion.
In order to be impeached a president has to meet the high bar of high crimes or misdemeanors.
It is such a tough standard to meet that no president has ever been impeached and then removed from office. And only two, Presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton, have ever been impeached by the House of Representatives.
Both of those presidents were acquitted by the Senate.
Add to that the fact that President Trump has both a Republican House and Senate.
And in the event one, or both, of those chambers become controlled by Democrats in 2018, they would still need a two thirds vote from Senate to remove him from office.
Can it happen? Yes, but it is on the border of improbable and impossible.
What Rep. Waters is doing is getting her base excited. Excited enough to send her campaign donations so that she can continue to live her multi-millionaire lifestyle far from her constituents who live in poverty.
