Hannity alleges ‘massive FISA court fraud’ after new revelations about Steele dossier’s primary source

New information was revealed this week about the primary sub-source for ex-British spy Christopher Steele’s infamous anti-Trump dossier, which was later revealed to have been used to obtain warrants under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to spy on a member of the Trump campaign team.

Now, Fox News host Sean Hannity has confirmed that the newly declassified details show “it’s worse than what we thought.”

Hannity said during Thursday’s episode of his self-named show that the new information, just declassified this week by Attorney General Bill Barr, provides “irrefutable evidence of massive FISA court fraud.”

“The reliability of the Steele dossier”

It was already known that Steele’s dossier, which Hannity says was funded in part by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, was compiled based on information from a single main sub-source. Now, however, Barr has declassified a footnote in Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s late 2019 report that reveals that sub-source was investigated for ties to Russia.

Yes, that’s right: the source of the Steele dossier was an alleged Russian operative. How’s that for collusion?

The news was revealed after Barr sent a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) explaining that the sub-source himself had been well-known to the FBI long before he was asked about his work on the Steele dossier. The issue came up as part of Graham’s own investigation into the origins of the so-called Trump–Russia collusion probe.

“A footnote in the Inspector General’s report contains information, which up till now has been classified and redacted, bearing on the reliability of the Steele dossier,” Barr wrote in his letter to Graham, according to Fox News. The AG went on:

The FBI has declassified the relevant portion of the footnote, number 334, which states that ‘the Primary Sub-source was the subject of an FBI counterintelligence investigation from 2009 to 2011 that assessed his or her contacts with suspected Russian intelligence officers.

“He was a Russian spy”

Reacting to the bombshell news on Thursday, Hannity didn’t mince words.

“[Fired FBI Director James] Comey and others used Steele’s dirty dossier, that Hillary paid for, as the bulk of evidence that even [former FBI Deputy Director Andrew] McCabe and [former Deputy Attorney General Sally] Yates said without which they get no FISA warrant against the Trump campaign to spy on them,” Hannity charged, according to Fox News.

“And Steele’s dirty Russian misinformation dossier, well, it had a sub-source, an intelligence primary sub-source,” Hannity added. “Now we know the sub-source was not only unreliable but the FBI knew this person — without any doubt, from day one — to be a Russian agent.”

According to Hannity, “they knew for 10 years he was a Russian spy.”

“That means the source of Steele’s dossier was a Russian spy and Hillary paid for it all,” the Fox host said. “And our FBI — under James Comey, Mr. Higher Honor — knew it the entire time.”
