Maryland DA announces arrests in Baltimore drug sweeps

In an effort to clean up the City of Baltimore, Maryland’s U.S. District Attorney announced the results of raids conducted throughout July in the city.

In all, 90 individuals were arrested during July raids, Fox News reported.

Local, State, and Federal Operations

A lot of people have been asking exactly what Baltimore is doing to combat the obvious crime problem in the city.

On Saturday morning, Baltimore’s DA provided the stats from ongoing cooperative efforts involving federal, state, and local law enforcement.

In addition to the 90 suspects that have been arrested and charged, authorities have confiscated 51 guns, more than $1 million in cash, as well as significant drug stashes.

U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur stated, “Reducing violent crime in Baltimore is job one. It’s what we in law enforcement think about morning, noon, and night.

“We will continue to do everything we can to prosecute the violent criminals who wreak havoc in and terrorize Baltimore’s neighborhoods,” he added.

Ramping Up

This widely publicized announcement by the DA is obviously a response to the tweets sent out by President Trump in July about the deplorable conditions in Baltimore.

While the announcement may have been an attempt to push back against Trump, many are looking at it as vindication for Trump’s statements.

Baltimore clearly has a problem that is impacting the local community, which was Trump’s original point. Regardless, with national attention now on the problems of the city, it is reasonable to expect local law enforcement to ramp up its efforts to address this issue.

In the meantime, people are still wondering what happened to the hundreds of millions of dollars that have gone to Baltimore over the years to fix the city.

While Trump has openly encouraged an investigation, nothing of the sort has been announced by the Justice Department yet.
