'Make them toxic': Now attorneys for Republicans targeted by Dems

Democrats for several years already have used "lawfare" against their opponents, a scheme that includes going to court over any perceived criticism.

It's also included using leftist prosecutors and judicial districts to bring both criminal and civil cases against Republicans, specifically President Donald Trump.

Democrats for several years already have used "lawfare" against their opponents, a scheme that includes going to court over any perceived criticism.

It's also included using leftist prosecutors and judicial districts to bring both criminal and civil cases against Republicans, specifically President Donald Trump.

Now that campaign is being expanded, according to a new report in the Federalist, and it involves filing bar association and other complaints against lawyers who represent clients opposing the Democrats.

The campaign, the report said, involves filing "ethics and even criminal complaints against lawyers who opposed Democrats in election litigation."

Now, the report said, they're going after any lawyer who crosses a Democrat "on any policy area."

"Their most sweeping goal is to discourage and chill lawyers from representing Republicans and conservatives, particularly in election law cases. They want to apply a much higher standard to them to punish them," explained Jim Bopp Jr., who recently won a case brought against him for representing Wisconsin Special Counsel Michael Gableman over his 2020 investigation that unearthed "widespread election fraud."

Threatening lawyers can lead to an advantage for Democrats in court, and in elections if they are the only side with "high-quality legal" teams.

"Most notorious, of course, is former President Donald Trump’s difficulties securing counsel to defend against the multiple lawsuits attempting to bankrupt him and ban voters from selecting him on the ballot," the report charged.

Targets identified in the report include former Attorney General William Barr, his former deputy Jeff Clark, Trump election adviser John Eastman, and local lawyers with no national profile such as Janet Angus in Wisconsin and an Arizona prosecutor who wouldn’t let rioters off the hook.

Democrats even used this tactic against prominent judges, including Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, the report said.

Ongoing war fronts include the Texas Bar Association barrage of complaints against Attorney General Ken Paxton and three lawyers in Arizona who contested chaotic election procedures in 2020.

In Washington, the agenda has deprived "many" of the 1,265 Americans charged for the January 6, 2021, riot of "competent" counsel.

The report explained half of current Republican attorneys general have faced discipline complaints, most relating to 2020 election litigation.

Such complaints not only threaten a lawyer’s license to practice but also impose legal fees and paperwork burdens. "Lengthy complaints can take 'an enormous psychological toll on people,'" Shalom Stone, a legal ethics expert, told the Federalist.

David Brock, an adviser to the leftist The 65 Project, bluntly has boasted of the 100 lawyers his organization has targeted, seeking to "shame them and make them toxic in their communities and their firms. … You’re threatening their livelihood."

Bopp said the "chill factor" is real, pointing out that many state Supreme Courts now are controlled by "hardcore leftists."

One such court, in Colorado, simply decided to remove Trump from the state's 2024 ballot, ruling essentially without evidence.

The money goes in one direction, too, the report said.

"In the 2020 election cycle, 81 percent of donations from lawyers and legal associations went to Democrats, according to OpenSecrets.org. Since non-leftist lawyers are already a minority in the profession, bankrupting and harassing them means working to eliminate Democrats’ legal opponents.

"Large law firms that donate tens of millions of dollars almost entirely to Democrats rake in tax dollars through legal contracts from red states, says a 2022 Alliance for Consumers report. The report also noted that from 2017-2020, eight large law firms put more money into Democrat coffers than the world’s largest asset management firm, Blackrock."
