On Friday, the day before mainstream media outlets declared Democratic nominee Joe Biden the nation’s president-elect, U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) raised eyebrows for tweeting a bizarre proposal regarding supporters of President Donald Trump.
The New York Democrat suggested that the president’s allies should be added to a list denying them the ability to “downplay or deny their complicity in the future,” as reported by Breitbart.
“Anyone who took a paycheck”
Her tweet came on Friday as an increasing portion of her party continued to put pressure on the Trump campaign to preemptively concede the election to Biden.
“Is anyone archiving these Trump sycophants for when they try to downplay or deny their complicity in the future?” she wrote. “I foresee decent probability of many deleted Tweets, writings, photos in the future.”
The initial post soon garnered a number of notable responses, including one Twitter users who advocated for a newly formed effort called the “Trump Accountability Project.”
That post went on to describe the initiative as a means to “make sure anyone who took a paycheck to help Trump undermine America is held responsible for what they did.”
Another user identified as a staffer in the Obama administration echoed those sentiments, declaring that “every [Trump] Administration staffer, campaign staffer, bundler, lawyer who represented them” would be recorded for future review. That tweet was reportedly later deleted.
“Which is it, Democrats?”
For her part, Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin suggested that Trump supporters should potentially be denied opportunities to serve on boards, hold public office, or even be accepted into what she described in a tweet as “polite society.”
Of course, an array of prominent conservatives also weighed in on Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet.
“Joe Biden claims that we aren’t enemies no matter who we voted for,” argued U.S. Rep.-elect Lauren Boebert (R-CO). “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, on the same day, tries to get a list going of Trump supporters – which is straight out of a Communist playbook. Which is it, Democrats?”
As the New York Post pointed out, a number of other social media users slammed the progressive lawmaker by comparing her, among other notorious historical figures, to Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong.
Although it is unclear what type of information such leftists would like to see recorded about each of the president’s allies, it seems safe to say that announcements like these are not the most effective way to heal a divided nation.
