Famous conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh just let a very big cat out of the bag.
According to The Washington Times, Limbaugh has revealed that he is in regular, personal contact with President Donald Trump.
Trump’s calls of concern
Limbaugh’s comments came on Friday during the latest airing of his weekday syndicated program, The Rush Limbaugh Show.
“The president calls me once a week just to see how I’m doing,” Limbaugh said.
There is no doubt that one of the main reasons the president is checking in with Limbaugh so frequently is the broadcast legend’s recent advanced lung cancer diagnosis. It was just this past February that Limbaugh told his legions of fans of his worrisome health status.
The day after the announcement was made, Limbaugh was a guest at the State of the Union address where President Trump awarded him the nation’s highest civilian honor — the Presidential Medal of Freedom — for “decades of tireless devotion to our country.”
Since that time, Limbaugh has had to be away from the microphone from time to time due to cancer treatments, but that has apparently not interfered with his regular chats with the president.
“Sometimes the calls are five minutes. Sometimes they’re 10. Sometimes Vice President Pence gets on the phone,” he said. “But it’s strictly about how I’m doing. It’s not about anything else.”
Agree to disagree?
It may well be true that Limbaugh and Trump’s discussions center mainly on personal topics, particularly in light of of some of the things Limbaugh has had to say on air recently regarding certain members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force. Limbaugh, suffice it to say, is not always a fan.
“And how do we know they’re even health experts?” he asked during one broadcast about some of the officials who comprise the group, according to the Washington Times. “We got all of these Hillary Clinton sympathizers still on the medical expert team here. And we know that one thing has not changed, and that is these people’s desire above everything else to get rid of Donald Trump.”
Limbaugh has been far from the only critic on this front, but the president has continued to vigorously defend his assembled team. “I can only say this,” Trump said recently: “I have tremendous respect for these people and we’ve done very well. I have great respect for these people. I’m never saying bad about these people.”
Perhaps it is indeed for the best that these two stick to the subject of Limbaugh’s health — at least for the time being.
