Liberal commentator Fran Lebowitz, known for her sarcastic and edgy public image, said she is supporting President Biden despite the fact that he is "too old" to be president.
Lebowitz is the latest left-leaning figure to concede the obvious, but she said she will still vote for Biden because "life is not a menu" and Donald Trump is the alternative.
The 73-year-old commentator said she wishes Biden was not running, but since he is, she will back him to stop the "horrible" Trump.
"I wish he had not decided to run, I really do,” Lebowitz said. “Because he is too old. I think he’s too old. However, he’s running," she added.
She briefly admonished young liberals who say they will not support Biden.
"Life is not a menu. There's no other choice," she said.
"Yes, I think he’s too old. Trump is also old, but the thing is Trump is so horrible that the old is even meaningless,” she said.
“Yeah, I think he’s too old. I don’t know why he’s running. It must be very hard to be the president but it must also be fun.”
Lebowitz also shared her view that conservatives are "mean" and that they hate "democracy." Biden has framed his re-election as a black-and-white choice between Trump and "our democracy."
The rationalization Lebowitz shared for supporting Biden is a familiar one, with many liberals arguing that Donald Trump is so threatening to the country that Biden's age concerns are trivial by comparison.
What's noteworthy is that few Democrats pretend any longer that Biden's age isn't an issue. Instead, they have shifted to fearmongering over Trump's plans for a second term and trying to equate Biden's mental decline with Trump's occasional gaffe.
It hasn't worked, with voters far more likely to see age as a concern for Biden than Trump.
A recent poll found that 67% of Americans believe that Biden is too old to be president.
Jon Stewart, the patron saint of liberal snark, recently faced backlash for acknowledging that Biden is old.
If a supposed gadfly like Lebowitz is supporting Biden, then many more liberals are likely to fall in line sooner or later. The "radical left" is in a pitiful state these days.
