Liberal groups and Democratic congressmen have spent the past several years targeting the conservative-led U.S. Supreme Court, desperate to cause a situation that would allow President Joe Biden to appoint a liberal justice to even the playing field a bit.
Since they can't get that to happen, the next best thing is pressuring conservative justices to recuse themselves from certain cases, which is what's currently happening with Justice Samuel Alito.
According to the Washington Examiner, many experts believe the pressure campaigns are a “coordinated effort” to delegitimize the Supreme Court.
Alito found himself in the crosshairs recently after it was revealed that he flew an American flag upside-down in 2021, as well as a "An Appeal to Heaven” flag, a patriotic symbol.
Democrats and liberal activists claim that Alito's flag flying was related to the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, claiming the same flag was used as a symbol of what the left falsely describes as an "insurrection."
As a result, those same people want Alito to recuse himself from certain Jan. 6-related cases and cases regarding former President Donald Trump.
The Examiner noted:
It marked the second time in two weeks that the justice’s flag poles became a topic of controversy, and the report prompted calls from Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL) for Alito to recuse himself from cases involving former President Donald Trump and the 2020 election, all because a handful of protesters carried the Revolutionary War-era flag on Jan. 6, 2021.
Mark Paoletta, ex-general counsel for Trump’s Office of Management and Budget and a friend of Justice Clarene Thomas, who was also targeted by the same liberals, explained what he believes is happening.
"The Left has been constantly attacking the court since at least March 2020 when Sen. [Chuck] Schumer [D-NY] stood in front of the court during an oral argument on an abortion case and directly threatened Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh on their vote," Paoletta said.
Thomas was targeted for the better part of the beginning of 2024, though the liberal activists failed in their attempts to hamstring him on ethics concerns.
Paoletta explained that there's an obvious agenda at play by the forces that continue to attempt to draw negative attention to conservative justices.
“Short term, it’s to intimidate the conservative justices and try to force a baseless recusal or to have them trim their sails on an opinion and longer term to undermine the court’s legitimacy and pack the court," he said.
He also noted that the Alito controversy came right at the same time the high court will decide on Trump's immunity claim.
There's no doubt that the left will pull out all of the stops to take down the high court and Trump.
