A shake-up at the White House had the media buzzing this week.
Fox News reported Tuesday that White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley is leaving his post in the executive branch to take over as the national press secretary for President Donald Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign.
According to Fox, “Gidley has served as White House principal deputy press secretary since January 2019 and has been in the White House Communications office since October 2017.”
Gidley took over the deputy press secretary role after it was vacated by Kayleigh McEnany, who now serves as Trump’s top White House spokesperson — and she’s made quite a name for herself. In fact, McEnany has already had a half dozen showdowns with CNN’s Jim Acosta.
Meanwhile, Gidley has long been known as a top communications official for Trump — and his move to the campaign has, according to Fox, been in the works for around a month.
Now, he’ll be one of the most prominent faces of a campaign that has had a rough couple of weeks. Between the pandemic, rioting, and the poor showing at the president’s recent rally in Oklahoma, the media has the Trump campaign on life support right now. But it looks like Gidley is swooping in to get things back on track.
“Hogan Gidley has been at the president’s side for three years and now he joins the fight to re-elect him,” Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale said Tuesday, according to Fox.
Parscale went on: “He is a talented advocate and defender of the president and his policies and is never afraid to go into battle with hostile reporters and television hosts. Hogan is a great addition to the team and makes us even stronger.”
“Strong, loyal, and trusted”
President Trump also sent out some encouraging words for his new national press secretary in a tweet published Tuesday afternoon.
Hogan Gidley will be leaving the White House on July 1 and heading over to my campaign to be the National Press Secretary. He is a strong, loyal and trusted member of the team that I know will do an outstanding job! We must WIN this election! Follow him at @JHoganGidley.

Gidley, for his part, has expressed how humbling it feels to be put in this role.
“My time at the White House has truly been a blessing beyond measure and getting to speak directly to the American people on behalf of this President has been an incredible honor,” he said Tuesday, according to Fox. “President Trump’s record-setting accomplishments have improved the lives of all Americans, and I can’t wait to get over to the campaign and fight for his re-election.”
